our family heritage

More than a brand, Maison Flore is a family story, born from the desire to revive a forgotten French tradition : the art of Trousseau embroidery. A story of threads and women, where Maison Flore finds its strength, weaving together heritage and reinvention, memory and creation.

From a lineage of Trousseau embroiderers, Flore Mouren shares her story made of antique linens, delicate hand-embroidered monograms, and gestures lovingly passed from mother to daughter.

From mother to daughter since 1901

" It all started with Marie, my great-grandmother. Orphaned at 14, she arrived in Marseille in 1901 with only one treasure : the embroidery savoir-faire her mother had taught her.

In the Vauban district, she met my great-grandfather and moved into the family home, where, that very year, she founded her humble embroidery house for the people of the neighborhood. "

A family house

" From its very beginnings, the small workshop quickly flourished in the neighborhood. At the time, hand embroidery had become a cherished craft entrusted to skilled artisans, a profession of the past, now nearly vanished. Families came from near and far to commission bespoke fabrics and embroidered treasures, crafted by Marie’s expert hands within the family home.

Inspired by this success, she passed down her savoir-faire to her daughter Berthe, my grandmother, who would in turn become a celebrated embroiderer for many families through the years. "

The art of trousseau, a feminine legacy to refresh

Trousseau embroidery is an ancestral art : the delicate practice of adorning household linens with initials, symbols, openwork, and flowers. Each stitch whispered a story of love, legacy, and identity.

From the old French “trousser”, meaning “to bundle”, the Trousseau was once a bride’s lifelong companion. Every sheet, tablecloth, and garment was hand-embroidered, by women, for women, bearing their initials like a tender signature. Both practical and poetic, these linens became timeless family heirlooms, treasured and passed down through generations.

The guardian of a forgotten French tradition

" For six generations, our family has lived in the same ancestral home, a place steeped in memory, emotion, and timeless treasures. My mother, the guardian of our heritage, took care to pass down every story and every gesture of our craft.

Within its walls rest hundreds of archives : sketches, tracings, catalogues, embroidery journals, linens, study pieces, collars, lace, and delicate threads, silent witnesses to our lineage and to a French tradition now faded from memory. An inexhaustible source of inspiration for Maison Flore. "

" Thank you for the exquisite work you have accomplished"

" Today, it is my turn to awaken this sleeping house and to create beautiful pieces, hoping, in return, to hear the same tender words once addressed to my grandmother by her clients. Creations with a soul, crafted to order, where ancestral gestures meet contemporary design.

We breathe new life into storied linens : century-old sheets, delicate tablecloths, embroidered treasures, transforming them into garments to wear, cherish, and pass on, just like the trousseaux.

With a feminine, sensitive, and sustainable vision, we refresh a forgotten French art of living. "
